Meet Kara: Denver Florist & Creative Director Behind KaraKara Blooms
I’m Kara, owner and creative director of KaraKara Blooms.
I didn’t realise back in 2022 how exhilarating, terrifying, vulnerable and wonderful it would be to open my own business. Putting your name on something you’re so passionate about and showing it to the world is a big, scary, exciting thing to do - so obviously I put my name on it twice! The thing is, KaraKara Blooms didn’t just pop up, fully-formed overnight. It’s the product of fifteen years of work, study and determination.
I grew up in Arkansas with a florist father so you could say this industry is in my blood, but I did take a break a few years ago to get a degree in architecture and planning, graduated… and promptly opened a flower shop, because of course!
Studying architecture wasn’t a direct attempt to move away from what I love - in fact it just unlocked a whole new world of creativity, letting me apply new technical skills to my work as a florist, set designer and creative director, and now,
I wake up every day and get to create something, I get to tell a story,
—whether I’m building a backdrop for a fashion shoot or working with a client on making their unique wedding floral vision come to life.
I love what I do and basically won’t shut up about it, and I’ve been in this industry for a long time so if you’re going to stick around, get ready for some OPINIONS. I’m hoping to create a space with this blog where I can educate and inspire, as well as just share parts of my journey without skipping the ugly bits.
Welcome to the Flower Cult.
Kara
